we’re getting a sundew!

Filed under: carnivorous plants, sundew, byblis — pokokpenyu @ 10:20 am

what can i say, gardeners rock! not only are people who love plants generally generous with advice and help, but sharing is a wonderful culture as well :)

we’ve been trying to get our hands on a sundew for ages, but haven’t had any luck. no nurseries seem to stock them, and it looked like we were going to be super disappointed. came across this awesome website and forum on nepenthes and other carnivorous plants based in Malaysia, called pet pitcher (our blogroll isn’t working right now, though the designer of this template is also very generously trying to figure it out — a gardener maybe? ;) ).

emailed the website owner to ask for tips on where to get one, and he has crazily and most amazingly offered to share his sundew with us! apparently he’s got several on the go, and has an extra pot of D. Spathulata to spare. not only that, he’s going to pass us some byblis seeds from his plant.

woohoo!!!

getting our new baby(ies) tomorrow. can’t wait. so, since we can’t offer pet pitcher anything in return….please please please visit the site. its freakin awesome and the forum is rockin with amazing people with a passion for carnivorous plants.

more tomorrow :D

picture of leaf and tentacle of a kind of sundew, also from wikipedia

  1. Wah..wah..wah…ardent gardeners nya korang. ‘fraid my plants are not as canggih…my tomato plants are growing slowly (oh if have any advice on tomato plants…that would be great), courgette is looking good…leek and onion looks pretty much dead (might have moved them too soon), broccolli growing like crazee, I dont think we’d have enough space for it, coz it’s suppose to be HUGE when it’s bigger, so will be giving out brocolli plants as pressies…and other flowers-flowers sekalian like tulips, magnolia, foxglove, marigold and stuff. keeping close eye on grape plant and rose bush, coz last year it was completely demolished by nasty bugs and such…will get photos to show off too!would really love to get an apple tree and plant it at the back of the garden - which would be super awesome…so have bought some ph-testers, to check soil acidity (cheewah!!! I feel like a scientist!) and oh..! got ornamental banana tree - and it not only survived winter, but also have 2 anak-anak! have put them in separate pots, and they are growing slowly. ok - can go on-and-on about my other plants - glad i’m not the only garden geek…oh yeah - have you got a compost bin? shld be good to make your own compost for all yr little ones (plants) - and it’s fab for environment! catch ya later xxR
