Frustrations of ‘The Savage Garden’..

Been visiting quite a number of book stores to look for Peter D’Amato’s Savage Garden, hoping that it might help us get to know our carnivorous plants better. No luck. Unsure if we should special order it or try a few more bookstores. In the mean time, the venus fly trap, its eyelids (or traps)..well the smaller ones are turning black. One by one. I pruned them this morning.

Sob sob. I don’t know what to do. I’ve been feeding it distilled water and it gets some sun, now and then, but mostly shade. I reckon the humidity level is low. :( Maybe i should move it indoors? Sigh sigh… Been feeling anxious the whole day today, i hope it will survive another day.

My peace lily on the other hand is budding again.

How very happy we are.

Here are my impatients…also budding all over.

Went to two nurseries in Subang yesterday (left by the highway on the way to pyramid). Got a couple of cheap retro looking pots.

Medium size pot for only rm4 and these at the bottom was about rm3 each.

Sunny day today. :|

Questions questions and more questions…

Filed under: impatiens new guinea hybrid, sphagnum moss, pitcher plant, venus fly trap — mukaketupat @ 10:54 am

A few questions that i hope someone that help me with..

  1. How do i make my pitcher plant come up with pitchers?
When i first got it for christmas, it had at least 3 pitchers, then they started to get all dried up and die. So i pruned them. Since then, they’ve been very healthy with many many new leaves. I just repotted them last night with sphagnum and moss with some soil. Can someone help me on how i can make them have pitchers?
  2. How do i keep the new flower buds on my impatiens healthy?
So i’ve been fertilising my impatiens religiously every 2 weeks. Its been many months, they still didnt flower. It gets partial sun everyday, very healthy and happy, but…nope, no flowers! Went to the nursery and consulted the owner. He told me to give it full sun and once they bloom, bring them back in the shade. So i did. Today, i saw two new small flower buds! Yahoo! So now, how i keep it healthy and happy? It’s also been raining everyday. :(

Ok that’s it for now……Will be back!

ps: we just got a new baby venus fly trap! More soon!

obsesi pokok

here are all my pokok-pokok & bunga-bunga. praises welcomed :)

blank is a type of lily called peace lily, and she’s got one full bloom flower & 3 anak (see below for close-up please).

and here, we have mogwai! i don’t know what type of kaktus it is, but i think he’s a poet. look at the kesan-kesan dakwat on his leaves. gempak!

just found out that mogwai is a type of kalanchoe (tomentosa) also known as panda plant.

echeveria something something something. this is the botanical name of the cactus above. don’t confuse with mogwai. okay, next!

oh segarnya pudina! my cat is unfortunately scared of it. he thinks it’s pedas.

i am aiming to impress with my knowledge of botanical names. this is a kalanchoe. k-a-l-a-n-c-h-o-e.

close up. it’s very pretty this plant. that’s all.

mmm! shame shame. got this african violet from ikea. shh… it was very hot yesterday and scorched some of the leaves and petals. it actually doesn’t look like this anymore :(

this is noname, but the common flower name is impatiens new guinea hybrid. i’ve had it for about a month now, actually more than a month. the flowers are starting to wilt slowly. i pinched a few out today. and i have no idea how to take care of it. i only just found out the actual name yesterday. that’s all.

and this is where they alllllll live. home sweet home. :)

p/s: check out the intruder, the seedlings!
